Iranian FM Javad Zarif due Tuesday
Dhaka: Iranian Foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrives here on Tuesday night on a brief visit to discuss bilateral issues and brief Bangladesh leaderships on the nuclear deal signed between Iran and global superpowers recently.
He will meet his Bangladeshi counterpart AH Mahmood Ali on Wednesday and discuss various issues, including the areas of future cooperation, said a Foreign Ministry official on Monday.
The Iranian Foreign Minister will also meet President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the same day.
Javad Zarif will meet media at 5:00pm on Wednesday before wrapping up his less than 24 hours visit though the Foreign Ministry described it as a two-day visit.
The spouse of Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif and high officials from the Iranian Foreign Ministry will accompany him during the visit.
Issues related to mutual cooperation in different prospective sectors are expected to be discussed during the meetings.
Earlier in July this year, Iran and six major world powers -- Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany -- reached a nuclear deal capping more than a decade of negotiations with an agreement that could transform the Middle East.
Earlier, Iranian Ambassador in Dhaka Abbas Vaezi confirmed the visit to have a meeting with his Bangladesh counterpart.
‘Bangladesh is very important for us,’ the diplomat said laying emphasis on exploring the wider prospect of cooperation with Bangladesh as the sanctions imposed on Iran are expected to be withdrawn soon.
On 1 September, the Iranian Ambassador shared the prospect of future bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
