Juba League infighting at cattle market leaves 2 dead
Chittagong: Two people were shot dead during a clash between two factions of Juba League over establishing supremacy at a market in Sandwip upazila of Chittagong on Monday.
The deceased are Kabir, 40, sales representative of a private company and resident of Mollapara of Sandwip town, and Jahangir, 48, another resident of the town.
Locals said local Juba league leader Zafar, also the follower of municipality mayor Titu, had been at loggerheads with another Juba league leader Mishu over the control of the area.
The clash broke out following an altercation between the supporters of the two groups over establishing dominance at ‘Baten Market’, a cattle market, at about 4:00pm, Sandwip police officer in-charge Mashiur Rahman said.
A chase and counter-chase took place and both groups opened fire at each other during the clash, he said.
Kabir and Jahangir were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
On information, additional police rushed in and brought the situation under control, the OC added.
