275 non-government colleges to be nationalised
Dhaka: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Wednesday told Parliament that the government is going to nationalise 275 non-government colleges across Bangladesh.
"The Finance Division has already given consent over nationalising 275 non-government colleges. The next steps will be taken soon accordingly," he said replying to a tabled question from Awami League lawmaker Md Shamsul Haque Tuku (Pabna-1).
Nahid said the government has a plan to nationalise one college in each upazila where there is no government college. The Education Ministry continues its activities to do so, he added.
In reply to an unstarred question from ruling party MP M Abdul Latif (Chittagong-11), the Education Minister said his ministry has taken steps for evaluating answer-sheets of the public examinations within a uniform system with a view to reducing the impacts of differences in examiners' attitudes.
"Such steps were taken so that no examinee would be deprived of getting due marks because of differences in examiners' attitude," Nahid said adding that 'model answer' was prepared articulating a set of instructions over how to evaluate the answer-sheets.
Besides, education boards trained their respective head examiners to use them as master trainers in this regard, he said.
The minister also noted some other measures to reduce differences in evaluating answer-sheets of the public examinations.
