PayPal’s service Xoom launched in Dhaka
Dhaka: Xoom, the payment service of popular online-based money transfer system PayPal, has been launched officially in Bangladesh.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, prime minister’s adviser for information and communication technology, inaugurated the service during a programme titled PayPal+Xoom Service and Freelance Conference at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in Dhaka on Thursday morning.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who was the chief guest of the programme, said the expatriates are sending their money through several channels, where they have to count huge fees and are also facing distress. PayPal Xoom service will help them to send their money using their Xoom accounts within two hours. Moreover, the freelancers can use Xoom for receiving their money.
Sajeed Wazed said all the unions of the country will be brought under Bangladesh government’s ‘Info Government 3’ project via fixed broadband by 2018.
Earlier, on 9 October, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak announced that PayPal is going to start its operation in Bangladesh on October 19.
He said the PayPal services will be available at nine banks, including Sonali Bank and Rupali Bank.
