Bangladesh ready to export skilled workers: minister

Dhaka: Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam has said Bangladesh is now ready to export skilled workers abroad, said an official release on Sunday.

‘The Bangladeshi workers are being developed as skilled workers by providing training at the vocational training centre under the ministry’, said the minister while visiting the Bangladeshi workers in two apparel factories at AL Dulal and AL Hasan area in Jordan.

The minister is now in Jordan on a five-day visit since 5 August.

The minister expressed his satisfaction to see the overall environment of the apparel factories and requested the owners of the apparel factories to bring more workers from Bangladesh.

Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Welfare Minister also will hold a bilateral meeting with the Labour Minister of Jordan tomorrow. Acting Secretary of the Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Begum Shamsunnahar, Director-General (DG) of Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) M Selim Reza, Director General of Wage Earners Welfare Board Gazi Mohammad Julhas, Additional Secretary of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Mohammad Azharul Haque, First Secretary of Bangladesh Embassy in Jordan Lubna Yasmin and Senior Vice-President of Tuskar Apparel Ltd Ramkumar Devraj, among others, will be present at the meeting.

The manpower export to Jordan has significantly increased since a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Bangladesh and Jordan in 2012.

At present, a total of 1.25 lakh Bangladeshi workers are working in Jordan.
