‘The sugarcane growers will get fair price of their produce after few hours on the same date of supply and that will end their sufferings,’ said Chairman of Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) AKM Delwar Hossain.

He was addressing the launching ceremony of the 2016-2017 sugarcane plantation season of Panchagarh Sugar Mills Ltd (PSML) in village Kazipara under Tentulia upazila on Thursday afternoon as the chief guest, official sources said on Saturday.

Vice-president of the central committee of Bangladesh Sugarcane Growers' Association Kazi Mahmudur Rahman Dablu, Tentulia upazila Chairman Rezaul Karim, President of PSML unit of Sramik-Karmochari Oikko Parisahd Anwarul Haque and sugarcane grower Mizanur Rahman spoke at the function.

With Managing Director of PSML Emdadul Haque in the chair, officials and employees of PSML, a large number of sugarcane growers, public representatives, community leaders and local elites attended the ceremony.

The BSFIC Chairman said the sugarcane growers would get information through SMS (short message service) before commencement of sugarcane crushing season and date of supplying their harvest to the sugar mills.

‘Steps have been taken to set up digital weight machine at every sugar mills and the farmers will get price of their sugarcane to be deposited to their bank accounts after few hours of supply to the sugar mills,’ he said.

‘The government will provide more training to sugarcane growers, further increase sugarcane price and enhance subsidies for inspiring them to cultivate sugarcane to make the country self-reliant in sugar,’ he said.
