Pran trains tomato farmers
Pran organised a training session recently for farmers on modern cultivation methods and pest management of Tomato farming in Natore.
The main objective of the training is to enhance productivity and quality of tomatoes, said Mahatab Uddin, chief operating officer at Pran Agro Business Ltd. Its other goals are to reduce production cost & postharvest loss as well, he added.
Pran Agro Business Ltd. arranged the day-long training on its factory premises where 40 lead farmers of Pran participated, says a Pran press release.
Fazlur Rahman, Additional Director at Department of Agriculture Extension (Rajshahi Division) Alhaz Uddin, Deputy Director at DAE (Natore District) and Saiful Islam, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer at DAE were present.
Mahatab Uddin said Pran has been providing trainings, technical knowledge and high-yield seeds (comparatively fewer prices) to its contract farmers to grow tomatoes. It helps farmers to increase productivity of tomatoes. Besides, Pran is offering buy back guarantee on crops so that the farmers get fair price without hassle of middleman.
This season Pran will collect 10,000-12,000 tonnes of tomatoes from its listed 8,000 farmers of Rajshahi division. Pran produces sauce, ketchup, tomato paste & mixed pickle from the collected tomatoes, he said.
