Dhaka: Stripping off the crown from Jannatul Nayeem Avril after many controversies, Jessia Islam has been crowned title of Miss World Bangladesh 2017 and she will represent Bangladesh in the upcoming 67th Miss World beauty pageant.

Antar Showbiz and Omicon Entertainment announced the new winner of Miss World Bangladesh 2017 at a press conference at a Dhaka hotel on Wednesday.

The grand finale of Lovello Miss World Bangladesh was held at the Noborattri Hall of the International Convention City in Dhaka's Bashundhara on Friday.

On that night, Jannatul Nayeem Avril was declared the winner of the beauty pageant. But Jannatul Nayeem Avril was dethroned as she concealed her marital status. After publishing some reports and a huge outcry in social media, Jessia Islam was named as a new winner of the beauty pageant at the press briefing.

Before declaring the new winner, one of the judges of the competition Bibi Russell reiterated Jannatul Nayeem Avril’s name as her first choice.

‘Jannatul Nayeem Avril secured the first place on the verdict of judges. Avril secured 51, Jessia Islam 48 and Jannatul Sumaiya Heme 47 numbers respectively,’ said at the press conference.

‘The marriage information of Jannatul Nayeem was sent to the organiser of Miss World Bangladesh. Jannatul Nayeem married a costume businessperson. After two months together, the couple got divorced and now single. But it’s not the problem, Avril was dethroned as she concealed her marital status to the organiser,’ added at the press conference.

The organiser also said. ‘The judges could declare the winner either the first runner-up or the second runner-up. It’s the decision of the judges. Then the judges named Jessia Islam as the new winner of the beauty pageant.’

Lovello chairman Ikramul Hoque, Antar Showbiz owner Swapon Chowdhury, judges Shampa Reza, Chanchal Mahmud and Bibi Russell, among others, were present at the press conference.

The 67th edition of the Miss World pageant will take place on 18 November 2017, at the Crown of Beauty Theatre at Sanya, China.

The top 10 in the finale were Jessia Islam, Jannatul Nayeem Avril, Rukayia Jahan, Zara Mitu, Sadia Iman, Touhida Tasnim, Miftahul Jannat, Sanchita Dutta, Farhana Zaman and Jannatul Sumaiya Heme.

Antar Showbiz and Omicon Entertainment brought the franchise of Miss World Bangladesh and organised the beauty pageant for the first time in the country. The title sponsor of Miss World Bangladesh was Lovello.
