The first look of the two lead characters from the upcoming film Sui Dhaaga was unveiled late on Monday. The Yash Raj Films’ production features Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma. What is striking is how commonplace the two look, giving us a peek into the story, reports the Hindustan Times.
Anushka, who plays Mamta in the film, is a picture of domesticity -- she sports a purple and white sari (looks like synthetic no-fuss fabric), a mustard sweater, a bindi (vermilion dot worn by many women in India, married or otherwise) and sindoor (vermilion worn by married Hindu women). Not to be missed is her nose pin and ‘angoothe waley juraab’ (a customised sock that can be worn with a slipper).
The picture is arresting as it is so far removed from the stars’ glamourous real life. Varun, who plays Mauji in the film, also carries ‘common man’ look with comfort. From the look, it is easy to surmise that the story is set in a lower middle class setting.
Sui Dhaaga, produced by Maneesh Sharma under the Yash Raj Films banner, has been written by Dum Laga Ke Haisha helmer Sharat Katariya, who is also directing the film. It will release on September 28.
While Varun can be seen learning to stick with a sewing machine, Anushka was seen with needles and thread.
