Bangladeshi filmmaker Rubaiyat Hossain has finished shooting of her new film ‘Made in Bangladesh.’

The shoot took place in Dhaka and Gazipur. Starting from April 18 and ending on June 1, the film was shot over a span of 36 days. After ‘Meherjaan’ and ‘Under Construction’ this is her third feature film that reflects the strength and success of the working women in readymade garments industry in Bangladesh, said a press release.

The director said about the film, ‘As I am a woman, I want to tell women’s stories in my cinema, specially those women who struggle like me in a patriarchal society. I think telling women’s story makes me come to terms with my own self as a woman. Cinema is an international and strong medium that offers a space for women’s solidarity.’

Jointly produced by France, Denmark, Portugal and Bangladesh the film raised the main financing from international grants such as CNC, Eurimages, Sørfond+ and Danish Film Institute fund. Last year the script was awarded Arte International cash prize at Locarno Film Festival’s Open Door’s Hub.

Other than the grants the film has been financed by Pyramid Films and Pyramid International, respectively the French distributor and the international sales agent of the film.

Rubaiyat Hossain started her journey by developing and pitching the project at Locarno Film Festival’s Open Doors Lab in 2016. Then she also participated in Script Station at Berlinale, Hong Kong Film Financing Forum and the Open Doors Hub in 2017.

The main cast of the film includes Rikita Nandini Shimu, Deepanwita Martin, Mayabe Rahman, Novera Rahman and Parvin Paru. The casting also includes Mostafa Monwar, Shatabdi Wadud, Jayraj, Momena Chowdhury, Wahida Mallik Joly and Samina Lutfa. Also, there are guest appearances by Shahana Goswami from India and the eminent actress Mita Chowdhury.

The main crew of the film includes Sabine Lancelin (director of the photography), Barakat Hossain Palash (camera operator), Elisha Albert (sound recordist), Paolo de Silva (gaffer), Jonaki Bhattacharya (production designer), Rajib Rafe (chief assistant director), Mahde Hasan (assistant director), Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed (executive producer) and Aung Rakhine (executive producer). The producers of the film are François D’artemare (France) & Ashique Mostafa (Bangladesh). Peter Hyldahl (Denmark) and Pedro Borges (Portugal) are the co-producers.

The editing of the film will start on June 5th. The final editing and postproduction will be done in France and Denmark. Made under the banner of Khona Talkies and Les Films de l’Après-Midi the film is expected to release in 2019.
