Zahidur Rahman Biplob’s short film ‘Omar Faruk’s Mother’ has been nominated for the government funding film in the year of 2017-2018. The film is based on the shadow of a true story of liberation war of Bangladesh. The story has been evolved on the life of a freedom fighter, Omar Faruq and his mother, who were lived at Nesarabad in Swarupkathi in Pirojpur, the southern part of Bangladesh.

Forty-six years have been passed, but the Omor Faruk’s mother’s time is still stand at one point, where she is waiting for her son every day, the waves of KirtonKhola have changed with the course of time, but the long-felt wait of the mother is not finished yet! Mother is still preparing rice for her beloved son for thrice every day, she always keeps open the front door of her house every night as if Omor Faruk would come back again and ask her for ‘rice’ as she still strongly  believes that her son will come back!

Omar Faruq was a man of 21-year-old, former VP of Pirojpur Government Suhrawardy College Students Union. During the Liberation War, he had promised his mother that he would love to eat boiled rice while he came back at night. But, the fate has written something else for him and he (Omar Faroque) did not return yet. That night, the Pakistani army captured him. When he was captured, they found seven Bangladesh flags from him. As a result, he was brutally tortured by the Pakistani occupation force. He could not bear such torture. He was one of the martyrs during the struggle for the independence of Bangladesh. Later, the dead body of Omar Faruk, was thrown in the river of Kirtankhola.

‘The preproduction work is going on. The list of artists and craftsmen will be finalised within a short time. Hopefully, shooting schedule will be started in mid-September, according to our plan. It is to be noted that the schedule date may change if it is required. Since it is the story of Pirojpur, we have selected most of locations there and some places in Barisal’, the director said.

‘It was a nice and fruitful experience to visit the location for the first time prior to start our movie ‘Omor Faruker Ma’, he added.

‘Consistency with the story, some of the elements, such as imagination, ideas and so on were added according to the requirement of the situation.’

The screenplay is penned by National Film Award-winning writer and screenwriter Masum Reza.

The film’s main story, ideas, screenplay, direction, camera operation and cinematography all these and credit goes to the director Zahidur Rahman Biplob. The pre-production of the film will be started soon, informed the director.
