Doob: No Bed of Roses is Bangladesh’s official entry for Oscars 2019
Indian actor Irrfan Khan-starrer film, Doob: No Bed of Roses, directed by Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, is a story of a family breaking apart. The Indo-Bangladeshi film was appreciated by the critics all over the world. Now, in some good news for Irrfan as the film has been chosen as Bangladesh's official entry for the Oscars 2019. The movie features Irrfan as a filmmaker whose life changes post he meets his daughter's friend and that lands up ruining the whole family bond.
The film also stars Rokeya Prachi as Irrfan’s wife. While Nusrat Imrose Tisha plays the daughter, Parno Mittra plays her childhood friend. Their performances were applauded by the viewers. Well, the movie was in headlines last year as there were reports of the movie getting banned in Bangladesh as it was said to be a biopic based on late Bangladeshi writer and filmmaker Humayun Ahmed.
Irrfan was surprised by the decision of the ban as he believed the story centered on human emotions, the relationship between a man and woman. He even asked that how can a film cause any harm to the society. In the film, Irrfan is said to be playing the role of a filmmaker Javed Hasan who leaves his wife and marries an actress and it's almost like Ahmed's real life story. Ahmed also divorced his wife and married someone 33 years younger to him and that became a national scandal.
Talking to IANS, filmmaker Farooki said the whole concept of the film has been inspired by a real-life incident "which shook the very foundation of Bangladesh’s judgmental Muslim society" and "how women struggle in our society and find strength in despair."
The ban, at last, was lifted as the film made its way to the big screen in October 2017 and was released in Bangladesh, France, India, and Australia.
This isn't the first time Irrfan Khan has a brish with the Academy Awards. The 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire also had gone on to win 7 Oscars. We wish luck to the filmmaker and the cast for this a big news!
