The 2019 edition of the 41st Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival drew to a close recently as awards were announced by this year's different juries. Films from Romania, Greece, United States and India won the awards in different categories of International Competition.

Bangladeshi short film THE LAST POST OFFICE was a part of International competition of Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival, the biggest short film festival in the world. The 41st edition of the festival took place from February 1st to 9th in Clermont-Ferrand, France.

Directed by Aung Rakhine, written by Rajib Rafi and produced by Rubaiyat Hossain and Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed, THE LAST POST OFFICE is a fairytale with an evil twist. On the edge of Bangladesh, cradled between mountains and water, stands a post office-the only mark of civilization. This post office has a notorious reputation. People who work here, disappear.

Held in the industrial city of Clermont-Ferrand in central France, it boasts more than 160,000 attendants that makes it the country’s second biggest festival crowd puller after Cannes.  This year, 76 films were chosen out of 9238 films to compete in the International Competition.

Aung Rakhine who attended the festival said, ‘It was a wonderful experience attending the festival. I wouldn’t have known that people can stand in lines in snowy winter to watch short films if I didn’t come here. Over 5,000 people watched THE LAST POST OFFICE in eight different shows. One of the venue accommodates 1,500 audiences. And there is huge market for filmmakers and industry people for short film. The festival inspired me a lot for my next project.’

THE LAST POST OFFICE has also been selected to the International Competition of the 49th Tampere Film Festival from 6th and 10th of March, 2019 in the city of Tampere, Finland. Over 4000 films from all over the world were submitted to the International Competition, 59 of which were selected from 47 countries.

Tampere Film Festival brings together a large number of film enthusiasts, be it professionals or amateurs, every year in March. It is ranked amongst the top three most important short film festivals in the world. The International Competition is amongst the most acknowledged short film competitions in the world.

THE LAST POST OFFICE features Ashish Khondker, Shariar Ferdous Shazeeb and Ashok Bepari in the lead roles. The crew member of the film includes Barkat Hossain Polash (Director of Photography) and Ripon Nath (Sound Designer). The film has been produced by Khona Talkies.
