Social Media causes sleep-trouble: Study
Scientists have found a troubling health trend among people who check social media a lot. In January, 2016 researchers at the University of Pittsburgh published a study that revealed some interesting links between social media habits and sleep patterns.
The study says — those who are obsessed with social media and who are very tired company are in a ‘trouble linked’ with each other. There is a link between these two behaviours. They asked more than 1700 civilians between 19-32 age limit about their social media usage and sleep habit.
They reported about using social media an average of 61 minutes a day. They check their feeds about 30 times a week. About one third of the study reported about ‘high levels of sleep disturbance.’ Those spend most of their time checking their feeds are ‘two times more likely’ to report poor sleep quality. Frequent checkers are ‘three times more likely’ to report sleep trouble.
It’s unknown, if excess social media use causes sleep loss or if people who cannot sleep scrolling their feeds, or if it is a vicious combination of both. Previous research has shown blue light emitted by smartphones can disrupt sleep.
