Lakshmipur: A Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal leader received bullets in a ‘gunfight’ with Detective Branch at Sadar upazila in Lakshmipur in the early hours of Wednesday.

Lakshmipur police assistant superintendent Zunaet Kawsar said the Juba Dal leader, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, 26, was arrested during violence at South Hamchhadi union. Nazrul’s assistants opened fire to police to snatch him at about 1:00am. Nazrul received bullet injuries as police also fired back.  

Nazrul was taken to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.

Police superintendent said Nazrul is accused in several cases.  

Three policemen Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, Bahar Uddin and Main Uddin were also injured during the ‘gunfight’.

Nazrul Islam said police took him away from his residence about 12:00 midnight to Palerhat area. DB fired on his right leg at about 1:00am and admitted him to the hospital.
