Tk 2 crore illegal medicines seized
Dhaka: Customs Intelligence officials on Monday seized illegal foreign medicines weighing 208 kg from the freight unit at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital.
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Assistant Director Ummeh Nahida said the medicines worth Tk 2 crore had been brought from Egypt by a flight of Etihad Airways on March 5.
RB Construction and Engineering, a private company, imported the medicines.
While checking the documents, it was seen that the drugs were imported violating the import policy order, she said.
The drugs are mostly used for treatment of obesity, fungal infection, cholesterol, heart failure, blood thinning, migraine and pain relief, Umme Nahida said.
Earlier on 4 March, Customs Intelligence officials seized 160 kilograms of illegal foreign medicines from the freight unit of the airport.
