Dhaka: Extradition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, who is now in police custody in Meghalaya, is unlikely due to legal action against him, poor health condition, and several other reasons, reported The Shillong Times on Monday.

According to the report, Meghalaya police want to complete the legal process of producing Salahuddin before the Court as soon as possible as they have to concentrate in local law and order issues. Salahuddin's city scan has completed before Ahmed is finally discharged who is receiving treatment under Indian police custody at the Civil Hospital in Shillong.

While there are press reports that Ahmed will be extradited soon, BSF said on Sunday that they are yet to receive any information on extradition of Ahmed.

According to Indian law, the maximum punishment for illegal entry is imprisonment for five years.

Hasina Ahmed, wife of BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed, left Bangladesh for Shillong, India on Sunday night to meet her detained husband there.
