Sylhet: Muhit, who reportedly tortured Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, a minor boy, to death, was sent to five-day police custody following a police request to question the accused.

Sylhet Metropolitan magistrate court 3 judge Farhana Yasmin issued the custody order at about 10:30am on Monday.

The court also summoned explanation from investigation officer of the murder case and Jalalabad police sub-inspector Jakir Hossain.
Jakir was supposed to be present during the trial of the case in the morning. The court asked Jakir to report before it by 2:00pm as he was absent during the trial.

However, local people demanded justice for Rajon and gave police a 12-hour ultimatum for arresting the involved.
Earlier, on Sunday night demonstrate at Ashraf Chowdhury’s residence in Shahartali of Kandargaon union, where Rajon used to live, at about 11:30pm. The agitated local people demanded arrest of the assaulters by 12:00noon on Monday.

Earlier, on Saturday night, a video footage—which showed Samiul Alam Rajon was tortured to death by the mob for allegedly stealing at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on 8 July (Wednesday)—triggered an outcry.

The 28-minute video clip showed two people beating Rajon mercilessly after tying him up with a pole at the workshop.

It assumed that a group of 5-6 people were involved in the torture.

The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident and uploaded it on the internet.

The video clip went viral on social networking site Facebook and video-sharing site Youtube which caused an outcry.
