Robert Gibson new Dean of Diplomatic Corps
Dhaka: British High Commissioner in Dhaka Robert W Gibson has taken up responsibility as the new dean of the diplomatic corps in Bangladesh.
‘Honoured today to become Doyen of the Diplomatic Corps in Bangladesh. Respect for my predecessor,’ he tweeted on Tuesday.
Gibson has been British High Commissioner in Dhaka, since September 2011. He previously served in Saudi Arabia, Brussels, Trinidad and Tobago, OECD Paris and as Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka.
Earlier, Palestinian ambassador Shaher Mohammad was the longest serving ambassador and hence was the Dean of Dhaka’s Diplomatic Corps.
Shaher Mohammad who joined his work in February 2006, served here more than nine years with the Palestinian Embassy before moving to a new post earlier this year.
Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali congratulated Shaher Mohammad on his successful Dhaka mission and mentioned that the envoy would be remembered for long for his active and effective engagement as dean of the diplomatic corps.
