Sheikh Hasina gets ITU award for ICT development
Dhaka: The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will award Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her contribution towards harnessing the potential of ICT for sustainable development.
The ITU secretary general has sent a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina notifying her of this.
The letter was handed over to Sheikh Hasina by the state minister for Post and Telecommunications Tarana Halim during the cabinet meeting on Monday at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Briefing reporters, Cabinet secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan said that the citation of the award is 'Award for ICTs in sustainable development in recognition of your (PM's) contributions towards harnessing the potentials of information and communication technologies for sustainable development'.
He said the award is scheduled to be handed over to the Prime Minister on 26 September during the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
