2 siblings burnt in acid attack; 1 held

Khulna: Two siblings have been burnt in an acid attack at Boyra PMG Colony area in Khulna city last night.
The victims, a young woman and her brother, both in their twenties, are residents at PMG Colony area in the city.
Sonadanga police officer-in-Charge Maruf Ahmed said that the attack was carried out while they were returning home at about 8.30pm from coaching classes on Monday night.
Police arrested ex-husband of the young woman on Tuesday.
The arrestee has not confessed his involvement in the incident till this evening, OC said.
The victims' father said her daughter went to BCS Coaching Centre in the evening. She was returning home with her younger brother on a motorcycle while two miscreants riding on another motorcycle threw acid on them when they reached near the gate of the PMG Colony.
He said the attackers could not be identified as they were wearing helmets.
The victims were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital's (KMCH) burn unit in critical condition.
At least 35 percent including face and breast of Kaniz and 15 percent of back of Shaon were grilled by the heinous acid attacked, said Dr Paritosh Kumar Mondol of KMCH.
Assistant superintendent of KMP Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman said, ‘The attackers fled from the scene after the incident.’
Police have started investigation about the incident, he added.
The father filed a case with Shonadanga Police Station in this connection last night.
