Students continue anti-VAT demo
Dhaka: As part of their ongoing movement, students of various private universities brought out processions in different parts of the Dhaka city on Saturday protesting at the imposition of value added tax (VAT) on tuition fees.
Students of Daffodil University brought out a procession on the Mirpur Road in front of the main gate of the university at about 11:00am.
At about 12:30pm, a procession brought out by students of State University from in front of the university near Kalabagan Bus Stand paraded different streets and terminated on the university’s main campus at Dhanmondi.
Likewise, World University students brought out a procession from Asad Gate chanting slogans against the VAT imposition on tuition fees.
Private university students also hold human chains and brought out processions in Rajshahi, Sylhet and Chittagong.
Earlier on 4 July, the NBR issued a notification imposing 7.5 percent VAT on the tuition fees of the private universities and medical colleges.
