2 minor girls drown in bay
Cox’s Bazar: Two minor girls drowned in the Bay of Bengal at Kalatali point of Cox’s Bazar sea beach on Saturday.
The deceased are Tahmina Akhter, 10, daughter of late Lokman Hakim, and Mina Akhter, 12, of Ularpara in Sadar upazila.
Additional superintendent of police of Bangladesh Tourist Police in Cox’s Bazar Alamgir Hossain said six boys and girls, including Tahmina and Mina, were taking bath at the Kalatali point of the world’s longest sea beach at about 1:00pm.
Suddenly, a strong wave of water washed them away to the deep sea.
Beach activists rescued them and took them to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Tahmina and Mina dead.
The two girls came to the beach along with four of their friends to spend the Eid vacation when they met the tragedy, the police officer said.
