52nd death anniversary of Suhrawardy observed
Dhaka: The 52nd anniversary of death of one of the great leaders of the sub-continent Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy was observed on Saturday in the country through different programmes.
Different socio-political, cultural and professional organisations including the ruling Awami League organised various programmes marking the death anniversary of Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, former Prime Minister of Bengal in British India.
The programmes included placing wreaths at the grave of the great leader, discussion meetings, Quran khwani, milad and doa mahfil.
Leaders and workers of Awami League placed wreaths at the grave of Suhrawardy in the capital this morning, while Awami League joint secretary Dipu Moni, labour secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, office secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Juba League chairman Omar Faruk Chowdhury, among others, were present.
Besides, Dhaka City Awami League, Awami Jubo League, Awami Swechchhasebak League, Jubo League Dhaka City North and South, Bangladesh Chhatra League, Bangladesh Chhatra League Dhaka University Unit, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Jatiya Ganotantrik League, Bishwa Bangalee Sammilon and other organizations paid tributes at the grave.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote organized a discussion meeting at the Shilpakala Academy marking the death anniversary of Suhrawardy with its general secretary Arun Sarkar Rana in the chair.
Awami League Advisory council member Suranjit Sengupta joined the function as the chief guest.
Jatiya Ganotantrik League also orgainsed a memorial meeting at the grave of Suhrawardy at 9:00am with historian Siraj Uddin Ahmed in the chair. Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique attended the meeting as the chief guest.
Meanwhile, general secretary of Bangabandhu Parisad SA Malek recalled Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy’s glorious political contribution.
In a statement, Malek said Suhrawardy was an unparalleled leader who had dedicated his entire life to ensure the welfare of the people by upholding democracy. Suhrawardy died at a Beirut hotel in Lebanon on this day in 1963.
