Savar: The Savar police on Wednesday morning recovered bodies of two vegetable traders near Turag area in Savar.

The traders were killed by a group of robbers said the fellow traders while the police claimed the incident as a road accident.

The deceased are Masud Rana and Mohsin Mia, residents of Battali village in Keraniganj upazila of Dhaka district.

The local people said four vegetable traders were attacked by a group of miscreants while they were passing by police checkpoint of Turag Area at about 4:00am. The robbers pillaged their valuables and stabbed them to death on the spot.

However, the Savar model police officer-in-charge (OC) said the traders were killed in a road accident.

The OC said local people called police after they discovered the bodies near Bhanga Bridge on the Turag-Bhartuka Road on Wednesday morning.

The agitated people launched demonstration naming the incident as robbery when police went to the spot to recover the bodies.

The police official said local people also blocked the Dhaka-Aricha Highway road and staged demonstration at about 8:30am, which halted vehicular movement on the road.

Later police charged baton and drove away the protestors from the road at about 9:00am.
