Worker killed in hotel roof collapse

Dhaka: A worker was killed after a collapse of a part of ceiling being constructed at five-star Hotel Continental in Dhaka in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased is Altaf.
Around 10 workers were also injured during the incident. The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
A witness said the under-construction part of the roof collapse at about 1:00am while the workers were carrying on the roof moulding of the building.
A worker said the roof fell down as the columns failed to bear the load of the roof.
Firefighters said the collapse occurred due to construction flaws.
Five-star Ruposhi Bangla Hotel shut down for 16 months to re-emerge as Intercontinental Dhaka on 1 September 2014.
Before named as Ruposhi Bangla, it was called Dhaka Sheraton, another international hotel chain which took over the management from the InterContinental group.
The hotel will be renovated under an agreement between state-run Bangladesh Services Limited and InterContinental Hotels Group (Asia Pacific) Pvt Ltd (IHG) signed on 19 February 2012. The group will run the hotel for a 30-year term.
