7 killed as truck plunges in ditch

Bandarban: Seven people were killed as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Lama in Bandarban on Thursday morning.

At least 7 people were also injured during the accident.

The Lama police said a good-laden truck owned by telecom operator company Grameenphone fell into a road side ditch as the driver lost his control over the steering wheel in the Yangchha area of Fashiakhali upazila in Lama at about 8:30am and left four people dead on the spot.

The deceased are Mohammad Akhter, Amzad Hossain, Mohammad Robin, and Rajib, all of them were residents of Pabna.

Local people recovered the injured and took them to Lama Health Complex.

Later, they were transferred to Chakaria Malumghat Hospital in Cox’s Bazar as their condition deteriorated.

Three injured were died in the hospital. Identities of the deceased, who died undergoing treatment, could not be known yet.

Fashiakhali union council chairman Rasheduzzaman said the Lama-bound truck from Chakaria carrying materials for construction of Grameenphone network pillar fell into a ditch due to heavy fog.
