Dhaka: Ustad Mansur Ali, a renowned flute player of Bangladesh Betar and father of popular singer Baby Naznin, has died.  He was 85.

Mansur, who had long been suffering from various old age complications, breathed his last at his Gulshan house around 9:00pm on Tuesday, deceased’s only son Enam Sarker told UNB on Wednesday.

The artiste is survived by wife, one son and three daughters, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Enam said his father was buried at Banani Graveyard after his namaz-e-janaza at Gulshan Society Jam-e-Masjid after Zuhr prayers.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia expressed deep shock at his death.

In a condolence message, she said Mansur Ali was a glittering star of the country’s music industry. “A pall of gloom has descended on the music arena at his death.”

She prayed for salvation of Mansur’s departed soul and conveyed her sympathy to the bereaved family members, artistes, cultural activists and his fans and well-wishers.

In another message, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also condoled his death.
