Chittagong: At least 20 people, including students, teachers and guardians, were injured as a picnic bus overturned on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Sitakunda, Chittagong on Friday.

Police and witnesses said a group of 50-60 students, teachers and guardians of ‘Al Hera Academy in Noakhali went to Parki beach in Anwara upazila of Chittagong in the morning on a picnic.

The accident took place at about 7:30pm when the bus skidded off the road and turned turtle in Madam Bibirhat area of Sitakunda after its driver lost control over the steering while returning, leaving 20 passengers injured.  

Firefighters along with locals rescued the victims and took three of them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said sub-inspector of CMCH police camp Pankaj Barua.  

The rest were taken to local hospitals, said highway police.
