Birth registration of over 16cr people completed
Dhaka: The birth registration of more than 16 crore people has been completed across the country.
The duration of the project for birth and death registration will end in June this year.
The current projected involving started in July 2012 with financial assistance of UNICEF.
Birth and death registration liaison officer Mallik Selim Reza said all deputy commissioners (DCs) and upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) have been asked to inform by 23 February the amount of money spent from the sum earned as birth and death registration fees.
He said online birth and death registrations are going on through 5085 offices, including 124 in 11 cities, 320 municipalities, 4571 unions, 15 cantonment boards and 55 embassies abroad.
Showing birth registration certificates has been made mandatory in all important official activities to ensure different rights of children.
The local government institutions so far completed about 16.25 crore birth registrations, of which 11 crore were registered online.
Online birth registration has taken Bangladesh one step forward regarding implementation of ‘Digital Bangladesh’, said Mallik Selim Reza.
