An assistant sub-inspector of Hotapara police camp was killed and three other people, including two policemen, were injured when a truck hit a microbus on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Bhabanipur Shirirchala in Sadar upazila on early Saturday.

Hotapara police camp sub-inspector Nazmul Islam said the accident took place at about 4:00am when a Mymensingh-bound speeding truck slammed into a microbus, requisitioned for police duty, carrying three policemen, including ASI Harun-or-Rashid 37, from behind, leaving them critically injured.

Later ASI Harun died on way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while the two other policemen — constables Manik Mia, 40, and Abdul Jabbar, 23, and driver of the microbus Faruk Mia,28, were admitted to the hospital, reports UNB.

Highway police also seized the truck and took it to Mawna highway police camp.

However, police could not arrest the truck driver as he managed to flee away.

The three policemen met with the accident while performing duty on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
