Gazipur road accident kills 3

Gazipur: Two college students were killed in a road accident on Kaliganj-Toni-Ghorashal bypass and a teenaged girl was hit and ran over by a transport van at Kaliganj in Gazipur on Thursday.

The deceased are Sourav, son of Soleman Hossain of Madhabbari in Sadar upazila, and Nimon, son of Shakil Miah of Uttar Chhayabithi area of the upazila. Both were HSC examinees.

Police said the students were on a motorcycle. It crashed as it hit a roadside pillar near a gas station at Monsurpur. Sourav died on the spot and Nimon was badly injured.

Nimon was first taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex, but referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He, however, died on the way to DMCH.

Local people said the accident occurred as Sourav and Nilon along with two other friends were returning home in two motorcycles from Kaliganj after celebrating Pahela Baishakh.

Meanwhile, an unidentified teenage girl died after a transport van knocked her down on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway at Salna in Kaliganj in the afternoon.
