Gopalganj: A journalist was killed and four of his family members were injured as a microbus carrying them plunged into a roadside ditch at Poona under Kashiani upazila of the district on Dhaka-Khulna Highway Tuesday.

The deceased is Israfil Sikder, 48, the Ashulia correspondent of the Dainik Alokito Bangladesh, reports BSS.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kashiani police station, said the accident occurred when the microbus plunged into the roadside ditch after hitting a human hauler injuring all including driver of the vehicle.

The injured were rescued from the spot and sent them to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex where attending doctors declared Israfil Sikder dead.

The other injured were released after providing aid, the OC added.
