JnU student strike continues
Keraniganj: Students of Jagannath University (JnU) enforced a fresh strike for the second consecutive day at the university on Tuesday morning to press their demand for constructing residential halls for them on the empty land of Dhaka’s old central jail.
Raisul Islam Nayan, a leader of the movement, had announced the strike at a press conference held on the campus on Monday afternoon.
The students took position from the university’s main gate up to Ray Saheb Bazar intersection at about 8:30am.
They also staged demonstration there by torching tyres.
The students’ demand for residential halls on the land of vacated Dhaka jail came as their accommodation problems took a deepening trend with landlords’ unwillingness to rent out houses to bachelors in the wake of militancy rise in the country.
The JnU students embarked on the movement for dormitories on the land of Dhaka Central Jail on 2 August after the transfer of its total setup to the newly-built jail facility in Keraniganj last month.
