Only two classrooms for 800 students!
Brahmanbaria: Recognised as a model school in 1995, Aliabad Model Government School at Nabinagar upazila in Brahmanbaria has got only two classrooms for its 800 students, forcing many to attend their classes under the open sky.
The school was established in 1939 and got recognition as a model school in 1995 for its good performance.
The number of students in the lone model school of the upazila have surged to 800 over the years but its classroom crisis still remains the same – only two.
Among 11 classes scheduled per day, nine classes are held under the open sky.
Headmaster of the school Rezaul Karim said educational materials, including books, of the students get damaged due to dust and rain as they have attend classes in open spaces.
"Attending classes regularly on the school compound under the open sky amid cold in winter and scorching sun in summer is not possible either," he bemoaned.
