Bagerhat trawler capsize death toll now 14
Bagerhat: The bodies of nine more people, who had gone missing after a trawler capsized in the Panguchi River in Morelganj upazila on Tuesday morning, were recovered from the river on Thursday, raising the death toll from the accident to 14.
The bodies of Salma Begum, 30, wife of Alam Chaprashi, and their 18-month-old boy Sazzad of Bashbaria village; Abdul Mazid Sheikh, 65, and Nazmul Sheikh, 6, son of Nasir Sheikh of Kachikata village; Rafiqul Islam, 35, son of Abdus Salam of Hoglabunia village; Ansar Ali, son of Abdul Gafur, and Sultan Halwladar , 60, of Altu Burujbaria village, Munni Begum, 35, wife of Tabibur Rahman of Chinrikhali village in Morelganj upazila; and Abir Al Shams, 15, son of Samsul Huda of Rayenda Bazar in Sharankhola upazila, were fished out from the river today.
Earlier, five more bodies were recovered from the river on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Meanwhile, two of the missing -- Khadiza Begum, 40, and her son Jubayer, 14 – were traced at a private hospital in Khulna.
Besides, six people still remained missing in the incident, said Rashedul Alam, officer-in-charge of Morelganj Police Station.
Being informed by local people, a team of Fire Service recovered the nine bodies from different points of the river from morning to afternoon, said assistant deputy director of Bangerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence Masud Sardar.
Earlier, on Wednesday, members of Fire Service, Coast Guards, Bangladesh Navy, police and local people retrieved the body of Rima Begum, 22, wife of Nawab Ali of Putkhali village of the upazila.
The trawler, carrying some 100 passengers, sank in the river on Tuesday morning while it was heading towards Purano thana ghat from Srombaria. Four bodies were recovered on the day.
