RMG worker body found after trawler capsize in River Sitalakhya

Gazipur: Body of a female garment worker, who went missing as a trawler capsized in River Sitalakhya in Kapasia upazila on Sunday night, was recovered on Monday morning.

The missing worker was identified as Selina Akhter, daughter of Gias Uddin, a resident of Bhiti Para village of the upazila.

Abu Bakar Siddique, officer-in-charge of Kapasia Police Station, said that the engine-run trawler carrying around 25 garment workers was heading to Singhosri Bazar Kheyaghat of Kapasia upazila from Bormi Bazar in Sreepur upazila sank in the mid-river around 9:30pm after being hit by a sand-laden boat.

All but Selina managed to swim ashore, said the OC.

A four-member diver team resumed rescue operation on Monday morning as they had to suspend the drive on Sunday night for strong current in the river, said Akhteruzzaman Liton, deputy assistant director of Gazipur Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Later, they recovered the body from the river in the morning.
