About Tk 1.16 crore found in mosque’s vault

Kishoreganj: Authorities of a mosque in Kishoreganj town found a treasure estimated to be worth around Taka one crore and 16 lakh in the vault of the mosque.

The authorities of Pagla Mosque usually open the vault, where devotees donated valuables, in every three months. On Saturday, the members of the mosque committee opened the vault and found money, gold, silver and foreign currencies. The amount of wealth broke the record of all time. However, they have yet to count the exact amount of the wealth.

Pagla Mosque stands on the bank of River Naroshunda in Kishoreganj. The believers think their longing will come true if they donate their valuables to mosques. People from far and near visit the mosque and donate money and other valuables.

The mosque is maintained by a committee, led by its president Mohammad Azimuddin Biswas, also the deputy commissioner, and general secretary Mazharul Islam Bhuiyan Kanchan, also former municipality mayor.

Executive Megistrate Abu Taher Sayed was present on behalf of the deputy commissioner while the authorities were opening the vault. He told NTV Online that the mosque committee genreally open the vault in three months each. The vault was opened on Saturday and around Tk 1,15,59,000 were found inside the vault. Moreover, gold, silver and foreign currencies—US dollar, Singaporean dollar, Saudi real, Malaysian ringit were also found in the treasury.

According to the suggestions of the committee member, local public representatives, and government officials, the money is used for the welfare of people, other mosques and madrasahs.

The mosque also includes a madrasah. Beside man, woman devotees also visit the mosque and say their prayers.
