N’ganj blast from gas pipeline, probe committee formed: Police

Narayanganj:  The explosion, which took place at a two-storey building at Rupganj upazila in Narayanganj on Friday morning, was from a gas pipeline leakage, said police.

Police also formed a five-member investigation committee as no sign of bomb was found on the spot.

Earlier, wall and roof of a building named Comilla House were collapsed following a loud explosion at about 3:00am on Friday. Two men— Mohammad Ibrahim, and Mohammad Aynal—were burnt and took to Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s Burn Unit.

Later, Bomb Disposal Unit and a team of CID (Criminal Investigation Department) of police from Dhaka went to the spot and conducted search drive.

District superintendent of police Moinul Haque told journalist, the explosion occurred from a gas pipeline. The house owner Abul Khayer, and care taker were taken for interrogation.

Meanwhile, a five-member investigation committee led by additional superintendent of police (ASP) Mostafizur Rahman has been formed in this conncetion.

ASP Moinul said a loud explosion was heard at the two-storey building near the graveyard of Borabo at the upazila. The explosion left the window glasses of adjacent buildings broken.

Primarily, the law enforcers had doubt over the explosion. Later, they conducted drive and confirmed that the explosion was not any violence act, said the ASP.
