Lightning strikes kill 10

Dhaka: A total of 10 people were killed and seven injured in separate incidents of lightning strike in Dinajpur and Sunamganj on Saturday.

The deceased were labourers Muktirani, Banita Ray, Meser Ali, Shaku Uddin, Kushan Chandra Ray of Rajarampur village of Biral upazila, housewife Halima Begum of Chakrampur village of ChirirBandar in Dinajpur, Sujat Mia, 16, son of Tajud Mia of Ghifura village and farmer Abdul Ahad, 45, of Kamarkhal village of Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj.

In Dinajpur, a thunderbolt hit a group of labourers while they were taking rest in a hut at about 2:00pm, leaving six of them dead on the spot and another later and seven other injured.

The injured were taken to a hospital.

Earlier, Halima Begum, wife of Shahidul Islam of Chakrampur village in Chirirbandar upazila, was killed as a thunderbolt hit her while trying to bring back her cows home at about 3:00am.

In Sunamganj, Sujat Mia, an SSC examinee, died on the spot as lightning struck him at about 8:30am when he was going for coaching classes in Jagannathpur upazila.

Besides, Abdul Ahad, a farmer, also died on the spot after a thunderbolt hit him when he was working on his field in the same upazila.
