4 killed in separate road accidents

Four people were killed in separate road accidents in Rajshahi and Naogaon on Sunday.

In Rajshahi: Two teenage boys were killed in a motorcycle accident on Durgaspur-Katakhali road in Durgapur upazila on Saturday night.

The deceased are Kawser Hossian, about 17 years old, son of Hossian Ali and Mukter Hossian, about 17 years old, son of Helal Ali of Saybarh village of the upazila.

Quoting locals, sub-inspector Mohidul Islam of Durgapur Police Station said the duo, riding on a motorbike, was heading towards Durgapur from Katakhali area.

When the bike reached Gourihar area, it hit a roadside tree around 7:30 pm, leaving one dead on the spot and another injured, he added.

Initially, the injured was taken to Upazila Health Complex and later, he died on way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

In Naogaon: Two people, including a bank employee, were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident at Panchamitala on Naogaon-Rajshahi Highway in Manda upazila on Sunday morning.

Police said the accident took place when a Naogaon-bound bus of 'Tisha Paribahan' plunged into a roadside ditch while giving side to a bus around 8:30 pm, coming from opposite direction, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and injured 10 others.

On information, police and fire fighters appeared on the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to hospital, said officer-in-charge of Manda Police Station M Anisur Rahman.

The bodies of the deceased — Abdur Rahim, 45, hailing from Chapainawabganj district and an employee of Pubali Bank Limited, and bus helper Ismail Hossain, 48 — were sent to morgue for autopsy.

A case was filed.
