The combined recruitment test for different posts of eight state-owned banks was marred by various irregularities, including mismanagement in seating, in the city on Friday.

Some 5,600 candidates could not sit for the exam at Shah Ali College centre in Mirpur as they found no seat after going to the centre, reports the UNB.

Many applicants said almost every room of the exam centres was overcrowded as job-seekers were accommodated beyond their capacity.

Md Mizanur Rahman, who sat for the recruitment test at Siddheswari University College centre, said around 150 candidates were made to sit in a room having a capacity to accommodate at best 50. ‘At every room, 3-4 students sat in a single bench,’ he said.

He also alleged that there was no orderly management of roll numbers, which plunged the job-seekers into trouble.

Another examinee of Shamsul Haque Khan School and College centre, Jannatul Ferdous, said there was no arrangement for keeping their bags and mobile phones in designated spots and as a result, many entered the centres with their cell-phones.

She also alleged that there were no enough invigilators at the centres.

Contacted, Mosharraf Hossain Khan, member secretary of Bankers Selection Committee (BSC) which conducted the recruitment test, said they will take the test of those who could not appear at the exam today. ‘The recruitment test will be held from 3:30pm on January 22 at Shah Ali College and Govt Bangla College in Mirpur,’ he told UNB.
