Keraniganj: A young man was killed and two other sustained burn injuries as a transformer exploded in Jhilmil project area of Dakkhin Keraniganj upazila on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday night.

The deceased is Babu, in his twenties, a resident of Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat.

A fire broke out when a transformer of ‘Janani Courier Service’ went off around 11:30pm, leaving Babu dead on the spot and two others injured, said Mahidul Islam, sub-inspector of Dakkhin  Keraniganj Police Station.

The injured—Mostafizur Rahman, around 40 years old and Rafiqul Islam, in his twenties—were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The fire also gutted valuables worth TK 2 crore.
