Sunamganj: At least two people were killed when a bridge broke and a freight truck plunged into a ditch at Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj in the early hour of Sunday.

A man was also injured during the accident.

Chhatak police Officer-in-charge (OC) Atiqur Rahman said the accident took place as the Baily Bridge broke in Lakshmir Baur area on the Chhatak-Doarabazar road at about 1:30am.

Identities of the deceased could not be known yet. The injured was taken to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Fire Service and Civil Defence and police said the truck was carrying materials from Chittagong and travelling to Mollapara union of Doarabazar upazila.

The OC said the two bodies could not be recovered yet as the truck stuck into the ditch. The fire fighters are working to recover the bodies.
