Jessore teen dies falling off tree during ‘Charak Puja’
Jessore: A teenage boy died falling from a date tree after he climbed it as part of the ‘Charak Puja’, a religious festival of the Hindu community marking Chaitra Sankranti, in Manirampur upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Pranta Biswash, 16, son of Baneshwar Biswash of Balia-Pachakori village in the upazila. He appeared in this year’s School Secondary Certificate (SSC) examination, reports the UNB.
Local ward member Sudhanna Biswash said Pranta observed fasting since Thursday afternoon as part of the puja.
He along with several others climbed date tree near a local cremation ground on Friday afternoon to pluck dates for distribution among the devotees.
However, he accidentally fell from the tree and suffered injuries to the head and chest.
The teenager was rushed to a local hospital where doctors referred him to Khulna for better treatment. He, however, died on the way to Khulna around 9:00pm.
