4 of five missing students found dead in Cox’s Bazar
Cox’s Bazar: Members of Fire Service and Civil Defense recovered four bodies among five students who went missing while bathing in Matamuhuri river in Chakoria upazila on Saturday.
The accident took place near Matamuhuri Bridge in the afternoon, said Kamal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the district.
The missing students are Sayeed Jawat Orbit, Punno Bhattacharja, Farhan Bin Shawkat and Aminul Islam, all Class-X students and Aftab Hossain of Class-IX.
All of them were students of Chakaria Grammar School adjacent to the river.
Headmaster of the school, Rafiqul Islam, said after finishing the exams, some students were to play football at a playground near the school around 4:30 pm.
At one stage their ball fell into the river and several of them dived into the water to bring it back.
‘One of them swam ashore and five went missing as they were hit by a strong current of the river,’ the headmaster added.
Rescuers were still searching for the remaining two students till filing of this report.
