President and PM pay last respect to Syed Ashraf
Dhaka: President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday paid last respect to late Public Administration Affairs Minister and former General Secretary of Awami League Syed Ashraful Islam by placing wreaths at his coffin.
First the President and then the Prime Minister laid wreaths at the coffin of Syed Ashraf draped by national and party flags at the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad, reports the UNB.
The President and the Prime Minister stood there in solemn silence for some time as a mark of their profound respect to the late minister and Presidium member of Awami League.
The district administration gave the highest state salute to the war hero of the great Liberation War Syed Ashraful Islam. A smartly turned out contingent of the district police gave the guard of honour to the late leader.
Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, members of the Cabinet, Prime Minister’s Advisers, parliament members, senior leaders of Awami League and various political parties and alliances were present.
Later, Sheikh Hasina along with senior leaders of her party placed another wreath paying rich tribute on behalf of Awami League at the coffin of late Syed Ashraf.
Besides, Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury and Deputy Speaker Advocate Fazle Rabbi Mia also laid wreaths at his coffin to pay their homage to the late Awami League former General Secretary.
Earlier, the first namaz-e -janaza of late Syed Ashraf was held at the south plaza of Jatiya Sangsad at 10:30 am.
President Abdul Hamid, ministers, Prime Minister’s Advisers, parliament members, leaders of various political parties and alliances and close associates of his long political carrier joined the janaza.
Besides, huge leaders and workers of Awami League as well as thousands of people from all walks of life took part in the janaza of the most popular politcian having a very clean image.
On the occasion, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of his departed soul.
President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury also joined the munajat.
