DNCC market in Gulshan caught fire earlier in 2017
Dhaka: A fire broke out on early Saturday at Gulshan’s DNCC Market in the city.
Earlier, a devastating fire broke out at Gulshan -1 DNCC market in the wee hours of Tuesday on January 3, 2017.
A portion of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) market of Gulshan 1 had collapsed as fire broke out at the market building. Around 100 shops were burnt down and part of the kitchen market collapsed in the fire. The fire originated at a shop in the east part of the 2-storey building at about 2:30am on January 3, 2017.
On January 3, 2017 afternoon, firefighters tamed the fire that razed through the DNCC Market for over 16 hours.
A total of 23 firefighting units brought the blaze under control at about 5:45pm.
The fire originated from the DNCC kitchen market in Gulshan area of the city at about 2:30am and it later engulfed the whole market, said Bhajon Kumar Sarker, a duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
A portion of the two-storey DNCC Market collapsed following the massive fire. The blaze also spread to another market adjacent to the DNCC market.
Several hundred shops were burnt down in the fire. It was not still clear what caused the fire.
DNCC market managing committee said there are 605 shops in two buildings of the market with one housing 371 and the other 234 shops.
Meanwhile, the building that has 371 shops collapsed following the huge fire.
