In a shocking incident, a mob brutally thrashed a woman on Thursday night, sending shockwaves among the residents of Sunlight Colony in southeast Delhi.

Police have launched a probe into the incident. The woman claimed that she was beaten up by a mob of 30-40 people because she was a Kashmiri Muslim.

However, some alleged that the mob beat her up because she was feeding stray dogs.

Meanwhile, news agency PTI claimed that five Kashmiris, including four women, were beaten up. ‘My sisters were abused and beaten up. I have a broken left hand and one of my guests who had come to visit us was also attacked,’ the agency quoted one of the victims as saying.

‘It was a planned attack and the accused were carrying hockey sticks,’ added the victim.

National Conference working president Omar Abdullah, meanwhile, took to Twitter to appeal to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to ensure that the incident is probed urgently.’@HMOIndia @rajnathsingh Please have this investigated urgently & bring the guilty to book,’ the former Jammu and Kashmir CM wrote.

The Delhi Police have registered a case and an investigation is on.
