A new mother says an allergic reaction led her caesarean section scar to explode, covering her family in her bodily fluids.

Raluca Oniciuc says the wound burst open two days after she gave birth, hitting her mother, two children and the ceiling.

Her c-section was sealed with staples, but Raluca, 32, is allergic to metals, leading to more than a pint of blood being lost. She gave birth to Theo on November 1 at Luton and Dunstable University Hospital, three weeks early.

Raluca says: ‘The staples were so uncomfortable and painful, a horrible stinging feeling. My skin was bright red and inflamed – but just where the staples were inserted.

‘My other two c-sections hurt – but this time it was a different kind of pain.’ Her belly became swollen and hard so she was kept in hospital overnight, but doctors assured her that there was no build-up of liquid or anything untoward, reports the Metro.

She was then sent home, but the pain intensified to the point that she couldn’t pick Theo up. She asked her mum to take a look at her scar, and when she pulled down her trousers she says her scar exploded, ‘like a water balloon that burst everywhere,’ Raluca says. ‘It was pouring down my legs, spraying the walls – it even hit the ceiling.

‘My mum and my two kids were covered in blood – they were so scared they went into shock, they didn’t cry or speak a word. ‘It was blood mixed with this pink liquid that smelt really medicinal, like really strong disinfectant.’

Raluca was taken to the hospital where her stomach ‘exploded’ for a second time. She lost 600ml of blood the first time round, and even more the second time. Raluca says they only removed the staples after she made a lot of noise: ‘I said, “listen – remove the staples now because I can’t take the pain anymore. I’m allergic to metal, take the staples out.” ‘So they finally removed them, but they didn’t even stitch me back up – they just put steristrips on the scar and sent me home.’

Doctors said in time, she should heal, but Raluca says she will be left with a huge scar, and says the horrifying experience has left her traumatised. She says: ‘I am in so much pain, my stomach is very sore.
